Dear Parent / Carer,

Your child is about to start unit 8 of their Science coursebook Macmillan Natural and Social Science 1. The topic of this unit is Water and air. In this unit, your child will learn to

·                     identify where we find water

·                     identify water as necessary for life

·                     identify the uses of water in our daily lives

·                     recognise the need for the responsible use of water

·                     identify the characteristics of water

·                     identify air as necessary for life

·                     identify wind as a force that moves things

·                     observe and name different types of weather and associate the clothes needed for different weather conditions

Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate characteristics of water by exploration.

They will say the Water and air chants. These chants allow your child to review the key vocabulary of the unit in context. Encourage your child to listen to the chant while looking at page 133 of the Picture dictionary.

Your child’s homework for this unit is to observe and record the weather. Help your child to observe the weather each day, drawing the appropriate picture in the space in the chart. This will help your child’s observation skills and also to appreciate the range of weather we have in the locality.

Estimados padres o tutores:

Vuestro hijo/a va a empezar la Unidad 8 de su libro de Conocimiento del Medio Macmillan Natural and Social Science 1. La unidad trata del agua y el aire (Water and air), así que aprenderá a:

·         saber en qué sitios se encuentra el agua

·         reconocer que el agua es necesaria para la vida

·         identificar los usos del agua en nuestra vida diaria

·         reconocer que todos debemos hacer un uso responsable del agua

·         conocer las características del agua  

·         reconocer que el aire es necesario para la vida

·         comprender que el viento es una fuerza que mueve las cosas

·         observar y aprender los nombres de diferentes tipos de clima y relacionar las prendas de vestir necesarias con las distintas condiciones climatológicas

Además, investigará las características del agua en un experimento y recitará las rimas Water and air, que repasan el vocabulario clave de la unidad en contexto. Animad a vuestro hijo/a para que las escuche mientras mira el Picture dictionary en la página 133 de su libro.

Asimismo, cantará la canción All living things need water y dirá y representará el rap Don’t waste water!

Los deberes para esta unidad consisten en observar el tiempo que hace y anotarlo. Ayudad a vuestro hijo/a a fijarse en el clima todos los días y a dibujarlo adecuadamente en el espacio asignado en la hoja de ejercicios. Esto contribuirá a desarrollar su capacidad de observación y también a valorar los distintos climas que tenemos en nuestra región.
